As Sir Alex announced the end to his glittering managerial career, a farewell tribute was born. All it took was a custom display case, a piece of Wrigley’s, then hours after his final game Fergie’s Last Gum was listed on eBay.

100+ bids later the highest bid stood at a monumental £150,800, until eBay stepped in and suspended the account. The stunt even had global media fooled claiming the gum had sold for just shy of £400,000. Metro, ESPN, Yahoo and FOXSports
